Diagnostic test for Rabies Ab for dogs
Rabies is a viral infection that is transmitted by an infected animal to other animals and humans via their saliva. A rabid animal bites or scratches causing a break in the skin allowing the contaminated saliva to cause the infection. Once the rabies virus enters the body, it travels along the nerves to the brain. The virus usually incubates from two to eight weeks before signs are noticed. However, transmission of the virus through saliva can happen as early as ten days before symptoms appear. Animals with rabies may show a variety of signs, including fearfulness, aggression, excessive drooling, difficulty swallowing, fever, staggering, paralysis and seizures. Aggressive behavior is common, but rabid animals may also be uncharacteristically affectionate.
There is no cure for rabies, and it is almost always fatal. Once clinical signs occur, an infected animal usually dies within five days.
