Diagnostic test for Brucella melitensis

The bacterium causes ovine brucellosis, along with Brucella ovis. It affects primarily sheep and goats, but cases have also been observed in cattle, yaks, water buffalo, Bactrian and dromedary camels, alpacas, dogs, horses and pigs.

B.melitensis can cause abortion, stillbirth, and weak offspring for the first gestation after the animal is infected. In males, the infection can cause acute orchitis and epididymitis, and in turn infertility.
