Diagnostic test for Porcine Epidemic Diarrhea Virus (PEDV-IgA Ab)

Porcine epidemic diarrhea virus (PED virus or PEDV) is a coronavirus that infects the cells lining of the small intestine of a pig causing degeneration and necrosis of enterocytes. The virus is transmitted via fecal-oral route. The main clinical sign in all age groups is watery diarrhea, sometimes vomiting and anorexia. The mortality rate for younger piglets (less than one week old) may reach 100%. There is no specific cure, just supportive therapy for affected pigs. Recovered pigs carry and shed the virus for weeks.
